Whipple Company Store
Scarbro, WV 25917
Located in Fayette County, The Whipple Company Store is truly one of a kind. It offers a rich history and once served as the center of Coal Camp Life. It was designed by Justus Collins, the Coal Baron, and was one of four stores that he built. Featuring over 18,000 square feet, the building used to sell anything from candy to caskets. It also served as the town's morgue. This could contribute to the eerie haunted stories surrounding the place. The basement is where the embalming took place and where the bodies were storied until their funerals. Many witnesses have reported smelling coal dust or hearing strange voices throughout the store. Others have also spotted full apparitions of miners.
