Lewisburg Historic District
Lewisburg, WV 24901
Lewisburg is a national historic district that is rich in history and ghost stories, too! The district features over 100 buildings, some of them that date all the way back to the mid-1700s. One of those buildings is the Old Stone Church, which used to operate as a Civil War hospital. Many wounded soldiers died at the hospital, which could contribute to the hauntings that take place there.
Another building that is said to be haunted is The General Lewis Inn. The ghosts at this inn are known to be tricky and mischievous and there's at least three of them lingering! Out of all the hauntings throughout the Lewisburg Historic District, the story of The Greenbrier Ghost is the most well-known. This apparition is said to be Zona Hester Shue, a woman who was murdered by her husband. Supposedly she even helped to convict him... when she appeared as a ghost!
